12 Years a Slave star Chiwetel Ejiofor‘s debut as writer/director is a Netflix drama that has already been selected as Britain’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars. An adaptation of William Kamkwamba‘s memoir, it dramatises this resourceful and technologically gifted schoolboy’s attempt to build a wind turbine and life-saving water pump for his village. Ejoifor also plays William’s father.

This Afrika Eye preview screening will be followed by live music from the Krar Collective in the Watershed’s cafe/bar.
