There comes a point in every Sherlock Holmes adaptation cycle when a spoof is required. So sure as night follows day, the TV series with Benedict Cumberbatch and those flashy Guy Ritchie movies give way to a send-up in the tradition of Without a Clue, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother and Billy Wilder’s affectionate The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes.
Frequently misspelled Get Hard director Etan (not that one) Cohen reunites the Talledega Nights and Step Brothers duo of Will Ferrell (Holmes) and John C. Reilly (Watson) to showcase exaggerated English accents as they set out to foil Moriarty’s (Ralph Fiennes) dastardly plot to bump off Queen Victoria (Pam Ferris). Rob Brydon, Steve Coogan, Rebecca Hall, Kelly Macdonald and Hugh Laurie are among the supporting cast, and if you’ve seen the trailer you’ll know that the line “No shit, Sherlock!” is present and correct.
