Bristol Bad Film Club: On Deadly Ground

Director
Steven Seagal
Certificate
15
Running Time
101 mins

You may think of Steven Seagal as an action lunk with curious hair. But that would be to overlook his deep spirituality and eco-consciousness, which came to the fore in his directorial debut from 1994. In On Deadly Ground, his self-appointed mission is to save the Alaskan wilderness and its indigenous people from a dastardly oil tycoon (Michael Caine, no really) and his goons. This he achieves by – you guessed it! – springing open a party pack of whupass. Sadly, there were cynics who failed to appreciate the film’s importance. History records that it received six Golden Raspberry nominations, winning Worst Director for Mr. Seagal himself.

Bristol Bad Film Club‘s first screening at the Curzon will be preceded by founder Timon Singh reading from his book Born To Be Bad: Talking to the Greatest Villains in Action Cinema about supporting henchman Sven-Ole Thorsen’s experiences on the film and his clashes with Seagal. Go here for our interview with Ti about his book.
