Tributes paid to former Bristol City Women manager Matt Beard
Matt Beard, a former team manager of Bristol City Women, has passed away at the age of 47.
Beard, who managed the club on an interim basis in 2021, also had two spells as manager of Liverpool’s women’s team.
The Football Association called Beard a “hugely respected and loved figure” in women’s football.

In a statement, Bristol City said: “Bristol City Football Club are deeply shocked and saddened by the passing of former Bristol City Women manager Matt Beard.
“All our thoughts are with Matt’s family and friends at this tragic time.”
Beard’s wife, Deb, wrote on social media: “It is with great sadness that our beautiful Matthew Beard has passed away tonight [Saturday] at 7.28pm.
“He is a loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle. He was the most amazing, caring man who was loved by anyone who had the pleasure to meet him.
“All of our family kindly asks for time to grieve in peace at his loss. We will love you forever, you absolute legend.”

Bear took charge of the Vixens when providing maternity cover for Tanya Oxtoby in 2021.
At the time, Beard said: “I’m really excited and looking forward to the challenge. I want to come in and make an impact straight away with the players, the staff and hopefully that impact can turn into results.”
