Fundraiser for injured Bears trainee
A Bristol Bears Academy player has had his dreams put on hold by a serious shoulder injury, causing his family to launch a fundraiser for his recovery.
Max Morris, from Newport, had been selected to train with the Wales U17s team this summer when he was hurt while playing for his school district and the Dragons RAG Block.
His surgery, which is set for Saturday, will cost £10,200 and be followed by six months of rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
Max was uninsured, which means the family are now self-funding and have had to borrow to cover the cost.
“The timing could not be worse,” his parents Kate and Phil said on the fundraising page. “Max is absolutely devastated to now be facing surgery and a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
“Rugby means everything to him, and his focus is now on doing everything possible to recover and return to the game he loves.”

Max’s talent earned him a scholarship to Clifton College, which is known for its rugby excellence.
“As proud parents, all we want is to help Max continue chasing his dream and making the most of the incredible opportunities he has earned through his hard work and dedication,” Kate and Phil said.
“However, the cost of his operation has created a huge financial bump in the road and may jeopardise the opportunities that lie ahead for him.
“This injury has been devastating for him, but he remains fully focused on recovering and coming back stronger. We are doing everything we can to support him, and any help towards his recovery journey would truly mean the world to us.”
The fundraiser aims to raise £10,000, of which £915 has so far been donated.
