Over 24,000 runners took part in the AJ Bell Great Bristol Run on Sunday morning.

Running enthusiasts from far and wide took on the 10k and half marathon events as thousands of supporters, including the lord mayor of Bristol, watched on.

Max Davis of the Bristol & West Athletic Club came first in the men’s half-marathon, with a time of 1 hour 6 minutes and 24 seconds, while the women’s half was won by Rosie Hamilton-James of the Westbury Harriers, with a time of 1 hour 15 minutes and 58 seconds.

Meanwhile Dage Minors won the men’s 10k race with a time of 30 minutes 24 seconds and Gemma Steel of Charnwood Athletic Club, based at Loughborough University, won the women’s race with a time of 34 minutes and 59 seconds.

This year’s Great Bristol Run also saw an event for visually impaired runners go ahead for the fifth year in a row.

The Visually Impaired Runners 10k Challenge is the only dedicated race in the UK for blind or partially sighted people.

Stuart Francis won the men’s race, with a time of 49 minutes and 33 seconds, while Becky Forster took first in the women’s race with a time of 58 minutes and 4 seconds.

The lord mayor of Bristol, Andrew Varney, and Bristol City Council leader Tony Dyer were the official race starters

The 10k and half marathon events sold out weeks in advance

Tens of thousands of supporters cheered on the runners

This year’s Great Run also saw the return of the annual Visually Impaired Runners 10k Challenge

Entries for next year’s AJ Bell Great Bristol Run are now open
