New red-ball captain commits future to Glos with contract extension
Cameron Bancroft has signed a two-year contract extension with Gloucestershire, keeping him at the Seat Unique Stadium until the end of the 2027 season.
The Western Australian batter, who rejoined Shire in 2024 and was named red-ball captain ahead of this summer, has quickly become central to coach Mark Alleyne’s plans.
His appointment followed Graeme van Buuren’s decision to step down after three years in charge, and Bancroft has since combined steady leadership with prolific run-scoring.

Since taking the reins as the red-ball captain at Glos this season, Bancroft has piled on 796 runs, including two scores of more than 150, while his unbeaten 143 in the Metro Bank One Day Cup on August 15 ranked among the top knocks of List A cricket in Gloucestershire’s history.
Across all formats since his return, he has edged towards 4,000 runs in 87 appearances, including eight centuries and a starring role in the Club’s 2024 Vitality Blast title win as the leading run scorer in the tournament.
Reflecting on his new deal, Bancroft said: “I’m really excited to extend my stay at Gloucestershire for another two years.
“It’s a fantastic Club with a great environment, and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success.
“I’ve enjoyed my time here so far, and I’m eager to build on that in the coming seasons. Can’t wait to see what we can achieve together.”

Head coach Mark Alleyne hailed the extension as “fantastic news” for the club.
He said: “It’s fantastic news for us to secure the return of Cam Bancroft for the next two years. He is an integral part of a batting unit that has shown great potential and performance over the past two seasons.
“It’s great to have him commit to the continued progression of this group as we – the Glorious – and the players will benefit hugely from his experience and considered application.”
