Our Causes
Bristol24/7 is a Community Interest Company. Our aim is to celebrate, inform and represent the whole of Bristol, and to bring new voices into journalism.
We run a number of social and environmental impact projects that are changing lives in Bristol and bringing new perspectives into the media.
Work experience programme
Our work experience programme has been running since our inception in 2014. Every week we have placements gaining valuable and practical experience in journalism, supported by our experienced editorial team. We keep a third of our places open to those who would not otherwise have the opportunities for this sort of work experience and partner with community organisations like Babbasa to fill these placements.
Community Reporter Initiative
In 2020 we launched our Community Reporter initiative to provide a more extensive career pathway and paid work for those looking to get experience in journalism. These roles are designed for those who may face barriers to do so and to provide new perspectives. We recruit, train, support and employ non-professional content creators from some of Bristol’s most deprived and underrepresented wards and groups to tell stories from their own communities.
Dozens of the participants in our work experience and Community Reporter programmes have gone on to permanent roles in journalism with Bristol24/7 and other local and national media organisations.

Climate and Sustainability Editor
In 2021 we became the first regional publisher to employ a dedicated Climate and Sustainability Editor. This has allowed us to bring conversations about the local environment to the forefront of our content. More recently we have brought in Youth Climate and Sustainability Reporters to support and empower young people in communicating about climate change. Providing this platform has helped drive engagement and positive action and raised awareness of youth views on climate change to our huge local audience.
How To Be a Chef
We have collaborated and supported a wide range of projects, including the How To Be a Chef programme which we launched with Square Food Foundation in 2017. This provides a free 12 week training course and practical experience in professional kitchens and events, supporting NEET young people into the food industry.

These are just some of the projects that we have supported and run in the last decade but funding them, and our independent journalism in general, has become increasingly hard.
Better Business Network
Our Better Business network brings over 70 local businesses together to support the work we do and drive positive change in the city. Each year we provide £2,000 worth of marketing across our channels to our charity and community partners. We connect them to our Better Business members who provide a wide range of support. This has provided tens of thousands of pounds worth of support to those partners.

20% of all monies raised from Bristol Legends will go to AntiBanquet and charities tackling food insecurity.
AntiBanquet has supported the Bristol Local Food Fund which was created by the people of Bristol, to help build a fairer food system in our city. 12% of Bristol attends food banks weekly, so they need our support in order to combat the inequality in food security.
