Victory for Purdown protest as plans halted
A school development on green space at South Purdown has been put on hold.
Fairfield High School was given planning permission for new sports pitches on the edge of Stoke Park when it was built ten years ago.
The school announced it would finally be going through with the development earlier this year.
But after a campaign from local residents, who said the planning approval was outdated, the council said it would halt work.
Simon Cook, a Lib Dem assistant mayor, made the announcement in response to statements and petitions at a meeting of full council on Tuesday.
He said: “This will be put on hold because there are obviously a lot of questions we have got to look in to.”
He added that the council had already commissioned an ecological survey and said councillors will now meet with campaigners and the school.
