Underground pub toilets broken by bungling council contractors
Customers at a pub are having to do their business in portable toilets after council contractors accidentally drilled down into the hostelry’s underground loos.
Two mobile units are currently in place on Princess Victoria Street outside the Quadrant following the mistake by workers as they pedestrianise the road in Clifton Village.
Two signs on the temporary toilets say ‘Quadrant customer use only’ but the team at the Quadrant are currently unable to say anything due to ongoing legal discussions.

Bristol24/7 understands that a ground penetrating radar survey was conducted in order to map the area ahead of the work to permanently pedestrianise Princess Victoria Street, which started in January.
But the Quadrant’s underground toilets were somehow not identified during this process.
While the pub’s toilets are out of use, the council is paying for the portable loos until repairs are made to the subterranean restrooms.

Ed Plowden, chair of Bristol City Council’s transport & connectivity committee, told Bristol24/7: “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and are actively working with the business owner to rectify the situation as quickly as possible and with minimal disruption.
“We accept that we need to put it right and have provided two Portaloos on site for the Quadrant customers to use until the remedy works have been completed.”
