UK’s first water-activated mural unveiled in Bristol

By Martin Booth  Saturday Mar 22, 2025

The UK’s first water-activated mural has been unveiled in Bristol to mark World Water Day.

The artwork by Jasmine Hortop, commissioned by Frank Water with the help of Upfest, is brought to life thanks to hydrochromic paint, changing from monochrome to colour.

Harvested rainwater from Cabot Circus was used to unveil the mural in Quakers Friars for the first time on Saturday.

Frank Water founder and CEO, Katie Alcott, said: “Water is the foundation for life and this mural highlights its importance and Frank Water’s role in helping to shape a sustainable future.

“Just as the artwork reveals itself with water, so too must we reveal and address the urgent need to protect and conserve this precious resource.

“We hope this installation inspires people to think differently about water and take action.”
