The incident occurred on Saturday on the Falzarego red run in Cortina d’Ampezzo, about 20 miles south of the Austrian border.

According to eyewitness reports, the boy veered off the path at high speed and collided with a tree.

Paramedics arrived swiftly at the scene, performing CPR and using a defibrillator for over half an hour.

But the boy was sadly pronounced dead at the scene due to his severe injuries.

Gianluca Lorenzi, the mayor of Cortina, extended his condolences.

He said: “I feel deeply sorry for this English boy, and both personally and on behalf of the municipal administration, we send our thoughts to the family affected by this immense tragedy.”

Investigators are now working to determine whether any hidden dangers or unusual features on the stretch may have played a part in the accident.

The boy’s parents are receiving medical and psychological support.

Speaking to Bristol24/7, R Heathcote, headmaster at QEH, said: “Out of deep respect for the family involved, we are unable to provide any details.

“We appreciate your cooperation in allowing them space to grieve. Our community is deeply saddened, and we are concentrating on supporting our pupils and staff.
