Tories select general election candidate for Bristol Central

By Betty Woolerton  Sunday Jun 2, 2024

Samuel Williams has been named as the Conservative Party’s parliamentary candidate for Bristol Central in the upcoming general election.

The politician and communications specialist originally stood to be the city mayor in 2021 before pulling out of the race to stand for West of England metro mayor, eventually being beaten by Labour’s Dan Norris.

Growing up in rural Gloucestershire, Williams was ordained as an Anglican minister before moving to the business world in 2015, his website states.

He went on to found Hodos Consultancy Co, a professional training and communications consultancy, and now lives in Bedminster with his family.

Williams is throwing his hat into the ring into the newly created constituency of Bristol Central, where the Greens are hopeful a win on July 4 will bring the party a second MP.

“It’s a huge privilege to be selected as the parliamentary candidate for Bristol Central,” said Williams, announcing his intention to run as a MP hopeful on X on Sunday.

“Bristol is where I work, rest and raise my family.

“Bristol Central deserves an MP of integrity, committed, as I am, to serving our communities and speaking up for what matters.”

Williams is running against the Green’s Carla Denyer, Labour’s Thangam Debbonaire, currently the Labour MP for Bristol West, the Workers Party of Britain’s Lesley Chandler, Reform UK’s Robert Clare and Liberal Democrats’ Nicholas Coombes.
