The popular Christmas television shows filmed in Bristol

By Safiya Bashir  Monday Dec 20, 2021

This year, television over the festive period is as exciting as ever. From Doctor Who to brand new dramas, there is plenty of reason to stay firmly on the sofa.

And Bristolians will be even more pleased to know that chances are that we might recognise a local street or two when tuning in.

These are the television programmes that were partly filmed in Bristol:

The Girl Before

Beginning on December 19, this is a four-part psychological thriller that will be playing on BBC One. The thriller series, starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Golden Globe and Bafta-nominee David Oyelowo, is centred around Jane (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), who moves into a minimalist house designed by an enigmatic architect (David Oyelowo). However, there is a catch. The occupants have to abide by his list of very specific rules.

Keep an eye out for the house, which is located on Woodland Terrace off Hampton Road in Redland.

Doctor Who – Eve of the Daleks

Doctor Who will return on New Years Day following the series finale. The Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and friends Yaz (Mandip Gill) and Dan (John Bishop) promise an action-packed special on BBC One that was part-filmed in Bristol’s A Bond Warehouse earlier this year.

A Discovery of Witches

A Discovery of Witches is based on The Book of Life novel from Deborah Harkness’s bestselling ‘All Souls’ trilogy and is the third and final instalment. Playing on Sky Max on January 7, the final season was part-filmed in Bristol, with scenes shot on Berkeley Square in Clifton.
