Neglected park lodge could be transformed

By Phil Wenn  Friday Jun 5, 2026

Victoria Park Lodge could be facing a renovation after two community groups have resurfaced plans to improve it.

Windmill Hill City Farm and Victoria Park Action Group have launched a survey are seeking feedback from the public to help shape what happens to the historic building.

The building in Victoria Park has been neglected over the years with equipment littering its rooms and “inadequate” public toilets; yet both organisations believe that the lodge has potential.

The goal is not to simply renovate the building but to create a “sustainable community facility” that supports local activities while celebrating the park’s heritage.

Plans for the lodge currently being explored include reinstated public toilets, a cafe and a small activity room for exhibitions and environmental projects.

There could also be improved landscaping, outdoor seating and even a residential flat on the first floor to help generate income.

“The intention is to create a building that works for everyone, from families enjoying a day in the park to volunteers, community groups, and local residents looking for a welcoming place to connect,” organisers said.

They also hope Bristol City Council might transfer responsibility for the building to locals.

Victoria Park Lodge sits in one of south Bristol’s most visited parks, nestled between Somerset Terrace and the bowling green.

The journey to renovation has been a long one, with proposals first mooted in 2018.

“With the right support, Victoria Park Lodge could once again become a cherished part of the park, not just as a historic building, but as a welcoming community space that brings people together for generations to come,” organisers said.

“Now is the time to help shape that future.”
