Supporting people with learning differences through crafting and creativity
Three sisters who have started a fundraising campaign to support adults with learning differences have already almost reached their target of £700.
The fundraiser was inspired by their brother Richard, who has Down’s syndrome, and their shared love for arts and crafts.
They plan on using creativity and nature to provide experiences for adults like Richard with learning disabilities.
is needed now More than ever

Participants have the opportunity to get outside and enjoy nature
The sisters’ non-profit organisation Nature Makers Collective is a social enterprise that enables and supports people with learning differences through crafting and creativity.
The new community interest company has already provided experiences such as creating ceramic Christmas decorations, making paper from recycled carboard and trying new printing techniques.
These activities provide adults with learning differences opportunities to learn new skills, gain confidence and socialise while being creative.
By providing people with a creative outlet, it can additionally improve mental health and wellbeing as well as being a great form of self-expression.

A class making paper from recycled cardboard
Located in Wot Pots pottery studio in Westbury Wildlife Park, Nature Makers Collective aims to create handcrafted products based off the natural world.
In this idyllic space in Westbury-on-Trym, participants can draw inspiration from the environment around them, helping to create unique pieces that tell a story.
This has enabled service users to create beautiful crafts that could be sold at local markets, helping involve them in the community.
All profits from these handmade gifts go straight back to running sessions and organising social outings, meaning that participants are able to develop hands-on experience that helps with employability in a supportive and welcoming environment.
