Student flats and ‘co-living’ to replace car park

By Martin Booth  Monday Mar 25, 2024

Planning permission has been granted for a new “mixed community” development that will house almost 600 people on the site of a historic car park.

The development of student accommodation and co-living will be built on what is currently Rupert Street car park, the first multi-storey car park of its kind in Bristol when it opened in 1960.

There will be 328 student beds and 249 co-living studio flats, as well as a new car park and shops on the ground floor where Evans is currently located.

Developers Greystar and Student Roost will also provide a gym, ‘wellbeing studio’, cinemas and recording studios within the scheme for all residents to use to work, study and socialise, alongside a shared student and co-living foyer and events space.

Architects say that a maximum height of 21 storeys will be “sensitive to the surrounding area”.

Student Roost managing director, Ashling Fox, said: “We’re thrilled that we are one step closer to opening our third property in Bristol and will have the opportunity to provide over 500 homes to university students and working professionals who keep the city thriving.

“Resident experience and satisfaction will always be a priority at Student Roost, and the 24/7 customer service, all-bills included in rent, events designed specifically for the student community and an unwavering commitment to wellbeing we are known for will be at the heart of this new property.”
