Prominent office building to be ‘transformed’
The owners of a prominent office block in the city centre plan to retrofit the building “to unlock the full potential of sustainable and high-quality office space in Bristol’s harbourside”.
Broad Quay House on the site of the former Co-operative Wholesale Society (CWS) building on the corner of Narrow Quay and Prince Street was built in 1981 and opened in 1982.
Its owners Aberdeen Investments now have plans to strip Broad Quay House back to the main structure, replace the brick walls with a new façade, extend the building both outwards and upwards including one additional storey, and create a new entrance and ground floor cafe.

Aberdeen Investments European head of development and construction, John Brophy, said: “This renewal of Broad Quay House is perfectly placed to transform it into a sustainable, attractive high-quality office building.
“Broad Quay House is becoming obsolete; the occupancy rate of the office space is low due to its outdated and energy inefficient facilities.”

Brophy added: “This revitalisation provides an ideal opportunity to attract major employers wanting attractive high-quality office space in the centre of Bristol, close to transport links and public amenities.
“We are proud of our design; it incorporates sustainability at its core and unlocks a lot of potential for the city’s economy but also benefits the public with new landscape enhancements and a new cafe.”
