Police horse Arthur Apples renamed Ashton ahead of World Cup coming to Bristol
A police horse has a new name to mark the Women’s Rugby World Cup coming to Ashton Gate.
Ashton, previously called Arthur Apples, took part in an official naming ceremony at the stadium alongside Bristol Bears player Jenny Herring, general manager Daisie Mayes and Ashton Gate head of safety & security Dave Storr.
Ashton Gate is the host venue for two World Cup quarter finals and both semi-final matches in September.

Ashton joined Avon & Somerset Police in July 2023 as a seven-year-old having spent the first part of his life living on an apple orchard in Ireland.
During his training with mounted officer Jenny Williams, he has attended football games and festivals, as well as taking part in public disorder training and crowd management.
He also travelled to Windsor during the state visit to the UK of French president Emmanuel Macron, with superintendent Vicks Hayward-Melen saying that he has “proved himself to be a safe set of hooves”.
