Planned changes including new overnight buses now in effect
New overnight buses and improved timetables are in effect after a series of planned changes for Bristol’s buses, using income generated from the Clean Air Zone.
The changes announced in August, will mean improved night services along several routes including a 24-hour service for the m1 metrobus between Hengrove Park and Cribbs Causeway.
Buses 1, 43 and 77 are also expected to have overnight services, while many others are set to run for extended hours in the night on most weekdays. Other buses will benefit from revised timetables, including the 24 which will now have an additional service every weekday morning from Southmead Hospital.
Timetables of 46, 47x, 48, 48x, 49, 49x, 50, 70 buses have all been changed to better accommodate traffic conditions during the busy autumn season.
Several of these improvements have been funded the income from penalties collected for driving in the Clean Air Zone.
Addressing the changes to city buses, chair of the Transport and Connectivity Committee councillor Ed Plowden said: “I’m delighted that we’re adding more capacity to Bristol’s public transport network by investing Clean Air Zone income into our bus services.
“We’re introducing earlier morning services across the city to support shift workers, and adding hourly night buses on Fridays, Saturdays and bank holiday Sundays to help people get home safely and support Bristol’s night time economy.”
