New bus route hopes to reconnect east Bristol with city centre

By Mia Vines Booth  Tuesday Apr 11, 2023

A new bus route hopes to reconnect east Bristol with the city centre.

Route 25 will replace Route 47, which was scrapped by First Bus in April this year after one year of operation, along with several other routes.

First bus blamed ‘low passenger numbers’ on the reason for scrapping the 47 service at the time, but was criticised by those living in St Paul’s and St Werburgh’s for cutting off a ‘lifeline’ service.

The new bus route has been launched by private transport company, Transpora, which currently operates in Blackpool, Manchester, London and parts of the South West.

From Monday, April 3, Routee 25 will connect Southmead Hospital, Horfield Common, Eastgate, St Werburgh’s and St Paul’s to Broadmead with buses due every hour.

A spokesperson said: “After the withdraw of Route 47, previously operated by First West of England, we noticed that this left the communities of St Paul’s and St Werburgh’s no connection to Bristol City Centre. So we started Route 25.”

Route 25 is one of several new services launching in Bristol this April to make up for a wave of bus routes scrapped by First Bus in 2022.
