Bristol’s former mayor has not yet taken his seat in the House of Lords but we now know how he will be styled when he sits in the second chamber.
Marvin Rees will become The Lord Rees of Easton, named after one of the areas of Bristol in which he grew up.
Lord Rees also lived as a child in Lawrence Weston before becoming the first elected mayor of Black African heritage of a major European city.
is needed now More than ever
Writing on Facebook when his peerage was announced in December, Lord Rees said he was “deeply honoured” and is “looking forward to doing my best to do good with this incredible opportunity”.
The former journalist and NHS manager will be sitting in the Lords with ex-Bristol West MP Thangam Debbonaire, who has yet to choose her new title.
Lord Rees has now been “raised to the peerage” and will officially be sworn in as a new peer of the realm on February 24.
