Hundreds of pro-Palestine supporters march through Bristol

By Martin Booth  Saturday Nov 18, 2023

“Why are they keeping on doing it?” asked one shopper on her way into the Galleries as hundreds of pro-Palestine marchers headed towards Union Street. “They’re just wasting everyone’s time.”

Another passer-by addressed her concerns to nobody in particular. “It’s disgraceful,” she said. “They’re terrorists.”

The marchers cannot help to convince everybody of their stand against what the Bristol Palestine Solidarity Campaign calls a “humanitarian injustice”, but they continue to march in order to get their voices heard.

On Saturday, marchers started in Castle Park and made a loop of Broadmead before heading back along Wine Street, Baldwin Street and through the centre to finish on College Green,

On Newgate, there was the incongruous sight of a Bollywood production continuing to film scenes as hundreds of protesters walked up the road towards them.

Leaflets handed out by a few of the marchers explained why they were protesting for Palestine, saying that “the killing of Palestinians without regard for humanity is ethnic cleansing as children are targeted and families displaced”.

“This is not about your political leaning. This is not about religion. This is not a ‘conflict’. These are real people. This is a humanitarian injustice.”
