Horses and carts return to the streets of Bristol
Much of Bristol was turned into a giant racetrack on Saturday as dozens of horses pulling carriages were ridden through the city.
From races on the Downs to galloping at speed down Gloucester Road, the Highway Code was not always followed to the letter.
Around 4pm, the group paused on the centre for around an hour before heading up Park Street and Whiteladies Road.
They had previously paused on Horfield Common, becoming an unusual sight for Bristol Rovers fans on their way to the Memorial Stadium.
Soon before midday, Bristol lord mayor Steve Smith wrote on Facebook: “We are aware of carriage riding / racing taking place on the Downs this morning. This is not a licensed or permitted activity and the police have been informed. If you see any concerning, antisocial or dangerous activity taking place please keep yourself safe and call the police on 999.”

Most of the horses were pulling two-wheeled traps in a variety of colours which could seat two or three passengers.
Horse and trap racing, also known as harness racing or trotting horse racing, often sees spectators bet on the outcome of the races, with some taking place on public roads.
