Gashead raising money for charity by wearing City shirt to the Mem

By Tom Pickering  Thursday Apr 11, 2024

A “mad keen” Gashead will painstakingly pull on the red shirt of their arch-rivals at the next Bristol Rovers game, all in the name of charity.

David Hewett has pledged to wear a Bristol City shirt to work on April 16 and then to Rovers’ home game the same evening against Cambridge United as part of Wallace & Gromit’s Wrong Trousers Day.

“I’m just taking The Wrong Trousers Day, one step further and wearing the wrong shirt,” said David.

The day is an initiative of Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, which raises money for Bristol Children’s Hospital, helping them to provide families with accommodation and purchase pioneering medical equipment to save the lives of sick children.

On his JustGiving page where he has set himself a target of £1000 to raise, David said: “I am preparing to suffer for a day, but nothing compared to what some of the brave children and families have to face.

“Hopefully the supporters of Bristol’s two clubs, whether a Pirate or a red, can join together to donate some pieces of eight and raise a large bounty to help staff, patients and their families on behalf of the Wallace & Gromit Grand Appeal.”
