Eyesore former hotel set for redevelopment

The ground floor and basement of the former Grosvenor Hotel near Temple Meads could become a shop, restaurant, cafe or bar.

A planning application has been submitted for the building which has been empty for almost a decade and was most recently used as a hostel.

It was also once in close proximity to the Victoria Street flyover, one of the barmiest examples of Bristol traffic planning in recent memory, akin to a giant Scalextric track:

Bristol's temporary flyover?...sadly missed

Built in the 1870s, the former hotel occupies a prominent location in the centre of a traffic gyratory at the junction between Temple Gate, Temple Way and Redcliffe Way.

It also sits within the Bristol Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone, which has grand plans for the area.

Derelict buildings and land around Temple Meads will be transformed into homes, offices and new squares.
