Event to support food action in Palestine
The MAZI Project and Feeding Bristol are co-hosting an event to raise funds to combat famine in Palestine.
In August, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification determined that more than 500,000 people in Gaza are living in famine.
Their findings have been backed by the World Health Organisation.
is needed now More than ever
In light of this, The MAZI Project and Feeding Bristol are set to collaborate with an event called ‘Food and Palestine’ that will celebrate the culture and history of Palestine.
The event will include a panel discussion followed by a three-course meal and a group conversation.
The goal is to raise a minimum of £2000 for the Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC), a Palestine-based agricultural development group.
Alongside their aim to reduce food insecurity in Palestine, The MAZI Project and Feeding Bristol also hope to support Palestinian-owned businesses during the event.
Both charities are dedicated to culturally-authentic food production and, to achieve this during the event, have employed a team of Bristol-based Palestinian chefs to cook the event meal.
This team will include Omar Jowhar, who previously owned Jafra, the Palestine-inspired restaurant on Gloucester Road that closed in 2023.
The fundraiser will give participants the opportunity to support Palestinian agricultural workers, while also providing a chance to learn more about food-related campaigns and other ways to support people Palestine.
The event will take place on October 9. Tickets, available on a ‘pay-what-you-can’ basis, are available now.
