Earthquake felt across Bristol
February 14 may have passed, but the earth moved for many across Bristol on Saturday afternoon.
While some were blissfully unaware, soaking up the late winter sunshine, others felt the seismic shift that has reportedly damaged some buildings in the city and sparked a Twitter storm of reaction.
Geological experts are saying that Swansea was the epicentre of the 4.4 magnitude earthquake, with tremors reported across Wales, the South West and beyond.
There are no reports of any injuries.
“The whole house on Windmill Hill shook like something had crashed into it,” commented Hugh Brazier, on the shocks that were felt soon after 2.30pm.
Diane Turner said: “I was just enjoying a lovely soak in the bath after finishing all the house cleaning when the bath and the whole room started to shake! Never been so scared in all my life.”
Others have reported glasses falling off shelves, car alarms going off and furniture shaking.
While for many, it was an altogether underwhelming experience:

And there are plenty of people already seeing the funny side of the fairly minor, if unusual, geological activity:
The British Geological Survey is reporting that events like this only happen every three to five years in the UK.
