‘Dirty tricks’ as dozens of dog poo bags filled with mud discovered

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Apr 1, 2026

Dozens of dog poo bags filled with mud have been discovered at a school playing fields.

The discovery is the latest twist in the saga of Stoke Lodge; with one of the reasons for the newly re-erected fence around the perimeter of the site being to prevent any dog waste left on the grass as well as to keep pupils from Cotham School safe.

The land in Stoke Bishop is owned by Bristol City Council, who lease it to Cotham for PE lessons.

A retired police officer who regularly litter picks at Stoke Lodge discovered 68 small bags and a holdall that had been hidden behind a bush.

Five more bags appeared the next morning by a nearby locked gate arousing the suspicions of the retired officer who reluctantly checked the bags and found they were filled with mud.

Campaign group We Love Stoke Lodge are claiming “dirty tricks” and have even filmed a spoof news report about the “fake poonami”:

A We Love Stoke Lodge spokesperson said: “We’d welcome CCTV footage of whoever is bagging mud.

“It’s a shame the school’s three CCTV towers aren’t pointed at the bushes.”
