Demonstration set for Fishponds McDonald’s
A demonstration against a proposed new McDonald’s restaurant on Fishponds Road will take place this weekend, the latest stage of a community battle against the fast food giant’s plans.
More than 100 residents met last Saturday to discuss their fears over the planned 24-hour ‘drive-thru’ McDonalds on the site of the Old Tile Factory.
After plans to build a supermarket and flats there were foiled in the summer, letters were sent out on behalf of McDonald’s in August outlining the proposal for two-storey, glass-fronted restaurant with landscaping and parking for 38 cars.

The demonstration on Saturday from 11am will take place at the derelict site.
Speaking on behalf of residents, Liam Condon said: “Local children, parents, grandparents, residents and business people [will] come together as a community to voice objection to a development which runs against everything for which Bristol is striving as the European Green Capital 2015.”
Residents and local politicians are concerned over increased traffic and litter they say will be generated by the restaurant.
A petition against the plans has been generated online and has now received more than 1,100 signatures since starting 10 days ago.
