Date set for Fishponds McDonald’s appeal
A date has been set in November for an appeal hearing where McDonald’s are due to contest the council’s decision to turn down a new restaurant in Fishponds.
Councillors refused the planning application for a 24-hour drive through on Fishponds Road, on the site of the old tile factory, in February 2015 on the grounds of congestion.
But the fast food giant said it would appeal the decision, leaving the application in the hands of a planning inspector.
The inspector will conduct a hearing at City Hall on November 8, where residents and the chain will have a chance to submit their views. The inquiry is expected to last for four days.
Over 1,700 people signed a petition in opposition to the move last year, while more than 500 handed in written objections to the council.
Protest marches also took place, winning the support of local MP Kerry McCarthy.
Road safety, air quality, litter, noise, odour, and the health impact on young people were all raised in opposition to the chain.
McDonald’s claimed the restaurant would bring 65 new jobs to the area. McDonald’s told Bristol24/7 they had no further comment on the inquiry.
A new application for a McDonald’s restaurant in Emersons Green was submitted to South Gloucestershire in November, triggering a petition signed by more than 700 people.
