Business raises over £8,000 for charities through pedal power

By Amelia McCabe  Tuesday Sep 9, 2025

A self storage business’ Bristol branch has surpassed £8,000 in money raised for charities through an annual bike ride initiative they’ve been hosting for five years.

In 2025 alone, a trio from the Vanguard Self Storagae premises based on Church Road in Redfield, cycled for 140 miles raising £1,602 for Brandon Trust and Travelling Light.

Lakhvinder Singh, Paul Robson and Jamie Harber cycled under the team name ’50 Miles and Beyond’ starting from Vanguard’s Redfield premises, pausing for a fun dance break mid-way before continuing their journey.

The team’s 2025 ride,  surpassed Vanguard’s previous fundraising record from 2024 of £1,240, by nearly £400.

While Singh and Robson were both staff members of Vanguard, Harber represented Travelling Light, who partnered with the self-storage business for its fifth annual charity bike ride.

Upon completion of the trio’s journey, a chorus of celebrations reverberated from the area surrounding Vanguard’s Bristol base.

An elated Singh said: “Our legs are definitely feeling the 100 miles, but it is worth it to raise funds for two local charities.

“Hopefully we will recover in time for next year’s ride, but for now we are proud to support Brandon Trust and Travelling Light for the important work they do.”

All funds raised by ’50 Miles and Beyond – Part 5’ will be donated to support Brandon Trust and Travelling Light, each working for a different cause. While Brandon Trust, provides supportive services to more than 1,600 people with learning disabilities and autism, Travelling Light, is a local theatre company that creates imaginative performances with and for young people.

Vanguard’s managing director, Will McCullagh, expressing his admiration for the trio, commented: “We are incredibly proud of our team for always going the extra mile, in branch, on the road and in their support for our local community.”

He later reinforced these sentiments, with an additional remark on the prevailing dedication of the team: “Their commitment over five years has made a real difference, and as a company we have fund matched what they have raised every year. By doubling their efforts, we hope to give Brandon Trust and Travelling Light the strongest possible support for the vital work they do.”

Additional donations for their 2025 bike ride can be made here.
