Bristol Uni ranked tenth best in UK by the Times

By Betty Woolerton  Friday Sep 19, 2025

The University of Bristol has secured the position of tenth best university in the UK, according to The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026.

“The combination of a leading research university and a charming cosmopolitan city that’s within easy reach of most of the country makes Bristol one of the most consistently popular destinations for students,” notes the guide.

The accolade places Bristol Uni as the 54th best university in the world, also ranking its courses of engineering, general engineering, aeronautical and manufacturing engineering and civil engineering in the UK’s top five.

The prestigious list is based on analysis of student satisfaction with teaching quality and experience, entry standards, research quality, sustainability and graduate prospects.

In The Guardian University Guide 2026, Bristol Uni was ranked 15th. Meanwhile, UWE Bristol jumped 26 places to come 38th in the UK.

Evelyn Welch, vice-chancellor and president of the University of Bristol, said: “We are proud to be recognised for our unwavering commitment to delivering world-class education and research in an exciting, vibrant city like Bristol.

“Our rise into the UK’s top ten is a testament to the dedication of our staff and students, and to our ambition to lead globally through innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence.”

Ian Bond, pro vice-chancellor for the faculty of science and engineering at the University of Bristol, said: “Securing top UK rankings for several of our engineering courses reflects the innovation, rigour and interdisciplinary strength of our programmes.

“The university is equipping the next generation of engineers to excel across diverse sectors of the economy in a rapidly evolving and technologically driven global landscape.”

The London School of Economics and Political Science remains the number one university in the UK for a second year in a row.

For the first time in the guide’s 32-year history, both Oxford and Cambridge have dropped from the top three to joint fourth place.
