Bristol to host Memory Walk
Bristol is set to once again host one of the Alzheimer’s Society’s 12 annual Memory Walks.
The sponsored walk, which is set this year for September 6, fundraises for the Alzheimer’s Society, a charity dedicated to helping those affected by dementia. The charity’s work includes supporting people living with the condition and their carers as well as investing into research into the disease.
The walk will have two possible routes to take on the day, both starting at Queen Square: a 5.1km path which will take walkers around Bristol’s Harbourside and a shorter 1.5km walk that is wheelchair accessible.
is needed now More than ever
Registration is free but participants are encouraged to fundraise a target of £160, or as much as they can.
Today, there are around one million people living with dementia in the UK, with 4,600 of them living in Bristol.
Television presenter and Alzheimer’s Society ambassador Ruth Langsford, who has been taking part in the walks for 15 years now, said: “By coming together and taking part in a Memory Walk, we can pave the way to dementia no longer devastating lives by helping to fund Alzheimer’s Society’s vital support services today and groundbreaking research for the future.
“It is so difficult to watch someone you love fade away little by little, but I’ve also seen the incredible difference support and care can make, not just to the person with dementia but their families.”
