Bristol gets ready for its first Krazy Races

By Martin Booth  Thursday Aug 28, 2025

A carrot, cider barrel and slice of cake are among the teams taking part in Bristol’s inaugural Krazy Races soapbox derby.

Forty teams will be on the start line at the top of Victoria Park on September 7 for what organisers promise will be “a one-of-a-kind family event filled with fast-paced action, spectacular soapboxes, and a celebration of creativity and community”.

The aim of Krazy Races is to get to the bottom of the course in your handmade contraption as quickly as possible, powered only by gravity.

As well as the quickest kart, awards will also be given for categories including best dressed and most creative design.

Alongside a day of racing from 9am to 6pm, there will also be food stalls and traders, children’s activities, and live entertainment; with money being raised for Children’s Hospice South West and Many Minds.

On a recent morning, all 40 teams brought their carts to the official ‘scrutineering’ day at Ashton Gate which saw every soapbox undergo safety checks ahead of the big day.

Krazy Races head of brand, Danny Scoffin, said: “It was such an honour to host our scrutineering event at Ashton Gate Stadium.

“We’re all about celebrating and showcasing the places we visit, so being able to involve Bristol City’s iconic stadium was fantastic.

“We’ve now seen all 40 of our brilliant teams up close with designs ranging from a carrot to a sofa and even a giant slice of cake!

“After meeting the teams and seeing their creativity, we can promise the people of Bristol an unforgettable day at Victoria Park.”
