Bristol Diversity Awards 2020 to take place online

The Bristol Diversity Awards will take hold its 2020 celebrations online, streaming the annual ceremony via Facebook and YouTube.

The awards ceremony recognises businesses, organisations or individuals who champion various areas of diversity including age, faith, religion, disability, gender and sexuality.

Taking place on Saturday, December 5 at 7pm, the shortlist and winners will be announced during the live show, with the organisers saying: “It’s an adaptation for the whole event being online in a different format this year.”

1,500 votes were cast, narrowing the nominees down to three in each category. Nominees for 2020 include presenter Alex Beresford, baker Briony May and broadcaster David Olusoga.

Former Bristol Rovers “legend” Carl Saunders will also be recognised for his work in combating racism in grassroots football.

Bristol Diversity Awards also hope to acknowledge to be given to the “controversial Colston five” who helped to topple of the Edward Colston statue in June 2020.
