Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2023, day 18: 1625 Independent People
Many young people in Bristol do not have a place to call home at Christmas due to family breakdowns or circumstances beyond their control.
‘Not Everyone Goes Home for Christmas’ is 1625 Independent People’s Christmas fundraising campaign which aims to providing shelter, support and a sense of belonging to those who need it this festive period.
Throughout the year, as well as offering safe, stable accommodation, the charity also provides practical and emotional support to ensure vulnerable young people can build healthy relationships, develop independent living skills and can access jobs and training, in order to flourish and thrive as an independent adult.
Services ranges from signposting or advice, to intensive one-to one support, supported housing, group activities and peer support.

“We work tirelessly to create a world where one day all young people have a safe place and trusted adults to turn to and can access the opportunities they need to thrive,” the charity says.
“They are our future leaders and a generation who will shape what our community looks like. We empower them to build a home, embrace their ambitions and equip them with the tools to have a purpose and career.
To celebrate its 40th year, a fundraising gig called Comfort in Chaos will take place at Bristol Beacon on January 12, described as “an uncategorisable mash-up of jazz, poetry, contemporary classical and experimental music, with even a hint of the Beatles”.
