Andy Burnham: ‘Bristol is the second coolest city in the UK but has the coolest mayor’

By Martin Booth  Monday May 3, 2021

One of the highest profile mayors in the UK has lent his support to Marvin Rees’ campaign to be re-elected as mayor of Bristol.

When Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham stood to be leader of the Labour Party in 2015, he was backed by Rees.

Now Burnham has returned the favour in endorsing Rees for Bristol’s top job.

“After Manchester, I actually think Bristol is the coolest city around. But when it comes to mayors, I think you’ve got the coolest of them all.

“Marvin is a great friend, he’s a top man, he’s got a brilliant heart and he’s got a vision for an even better Bristol.

“So please, give him your support.”

Responding to Burnham’s endorsement, Rees tweeted: “Mayor @AndyBurnhamGM has been a real ally for #Bristol

“We’ve worked together to press Westminster for a Clean Air Fund, lobby for more investment in our areas, and for extra support during the pandemic – including for @ExcludedUK

“Proud to have Andy’s support for Thursday.”
