29 awesome winning photos from the 24 Hours in Bristol competition 2017

By Bristol24/7  Monday Oct 30, 2017

For the first time, all the entries for this year’s 24 Hours in Bristol photography competition had to be taken on a smartphone. And the results are stunning.

As for other years, the photographs had to all be taken within a specific 24-hour period, with category winners as well as hourly winners.

The overall first prize was won by Sarah Diamond Vale from Bristol’s twin city of Oporto in Portugal:

Overall first prize: Playground by Sarah Diamond Vale

“I am so surprised to win this prize,” Sarah said. “There were many fantastic photographs here so I am very honoured. Bristol is a wonderful city and I have loved being here.

“Bristol is a very photogenic city and the people are so friendly. I love the coloured houses, the harbourside, the graffiti art, the bridge and the diversity of the people here.”

The overall second prize was won by Duncan Nagle from Walsall for a portrait of Ray taking a break from painting Bristol’s historic fire boat Pyranaut during the maritime history weekend:

Overall second prize: Py-Ray-naut by Duncan Nagle

Duncan is originally from Bristol and went to Bristol Cathedral School, but has lived in London and Walsall for a number of years. He and his wife Karen went back home with a number of prizes each.

The overall third prize was won by Stuart Lees from Bristol for his colourful photo of a seagull (pictured top). Stuart had intended to photograph cormorants, so hid his iPad in a box with a hole cut out and set it to take pictures every 10 seconds.

Although the cormorants decided to fish elsewhere that day, a photogenic seagull swooped in for a winning selfie instead.
