St Paul’s Carnival seeks extra funding for 2019

By Joe Read  Tuesday May 21, 2019

St Paul’s Carnival are aiming to raise £20,000 to grow of the festival through a crowdfunding campaign.

Started over 50 years ago in 1968, the carnival needs to secure financial backing for the next chapter of their historic event.

The objective remains to provide a carnival where the relationships between local European, Asian and African-Caribbean communities can continue to flourish.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Long been praised for its diversity, multiculturalism, and colourful display of costumes and floats, the day of festivities gives communities a chance to indulge in a wide range of street food while experiencing live performances and parades.

After a three-year hiatus, a community interest company was established in 2018 to revive the festival for its 50th anniversary. Following from its successful comeback, the organisers are reaching beyond its current funding from Bristol City Council and Arts Council England in 2019.

The public can pledge between £10 and £1000 through the campaign, with rewards including name recognition in the programs and on the website, wristbands, T-shirts, and VIP lunches. There is even a chance to be named a ‘Friend of Carnival’ with ‘friends’ invited to events held by all-year round by the organisation, including the VIP carnival brunch.

The ever-popular St Pauls Carnival turned 50 last year
