Shop of the Week: Born In Bristol, Redfield
Lisa Turner, a mum-of-four who previously worked as a child-minder, teamed up with a friend in 2017 to open Born in Bristol after they had “the bright idea one day”.
The independent shop on Church Road in Redfield supports more than 40 Bristol-based, local businesses and artists with everything from cards and picture frames, to colourful vases, a collection of Bristol made baby clothes and much more.
Lisa prides herself on providing a family-run business and how it has changed and evolved over the years.
is needed now More than ever
She said: “We started off being just a baby shop and a few years back we decided to go down the gift card shop route with local businesses and artists. The majority of it is local people.”

The name of the shop is reflected in the Born in Bristol baby clothing brand that Lisa and her business partner created with Bristol’s famous hot air balloons. Adding.
“We designed it and my Dad does the embroidery so it’s in the family.”
The design is a big hit at the annual Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. “The Balloon Fiesta is really successful as everyone wants to buy something with a balloon on,” said Lisa.

Lisa not only provides support to local businesses, she transforms the back half of the shop into a magical Santa’s Grotto that for the last three years has been a huge success.
She said: “We block half the shop off and we have an archway that leads into the grotto. People buy a time slot and they get personal time with Santa and a gift…
We have people coming back each year. They say this is our tradition now.”
It’s not hard to see why Born in Bristol is popular. “I just like being in the community,” Lisa enthuses.
“You get to know lots of regular customers, because I went from child-minding where you’re on you own, to meeting people, having a chat and it’s nice really.”
Lisa hopes to expand with more stock from local artists. “I just think it’s grown really over the last few years and it’s got better and better.” Watch this space, Redfield.
