Pop-up shop returns to the Galleries
A festive pop-up shop has returned to the Galleries shopping centre.
The Bristol Pop-Up Shop has been running every December for eight years, aiming to celebrate independent and local creatives with their limited-time store.
The shop hosts around 70 different creators every year, ranging from painters and photographers to ceramicists and jewellers.
is needed now More than ever
The pop-up is located within the historic Merchant Taylors’ almshouses which was most recently Jack Wills.
The building dating back to 1701 originally housed nine people. It was the premises of Bristol Corporation’s weights and measures department before becoming a branch of Lloyds bank from 1955, then transforming into the Almshouse pub in 1992 and becoming a cafe before turning into a shop.

The pop-up has been in the Galleries every Christmas since 2018
Corinne Evans, one of the organisers of the pop-up, said: “We have such amazing customers returning to us and it keeps growing and growing each year.”
The gift and makers’ shop, which grew from the Bristol Etsy Team in 2018, aims to celebrate local artists and make the festive season more personal.
“We just want to have a world with lots of item variety, something special and unique,” said Evans.
“Everything in the shop is handmade or hand-designed by local people and we’re quite strict on that.
“Everyone who we have: it’s their business and their livelihood. It really makes an impact and goes to real people instead of big corporations.”

Local crafts in the shop span food, home and clothing
With the Galleries shopping centre set to be demolished, Evans told Bristol24/7 that this might be the pop-up shop’s final appearance.
She said: “We’re really sad that this might be our last year. We are open to other places but with the Galleries being redeveloped it’s very unlikely. It’s a massive question mark right now.”
The Bristol Pop-Up Shop is open every day until Christmas Eve from 10am to 6pm.
