Flowers by Alla opens first store in Bristol

By Holly Lambert  Wednesday Jan 29, 2025

A new florist shop has opened its doors for the first time.

Having run a successful florist business online, Alla Orekhovska has opened her first in-person store, known as Flowers by Alla.

Speaking to Bristol 24/7, Alla says the inspiration for her business came from a childhood love for flowers: “I had experience in Ukraine already with flowers, but it’s been my passion from my childhood, coming from my grandma.”

Alla moved to Bristol to escape the conflict in her home of Kyiv, Ukraine. She opened her online store in May of last year, calling it “a dream come true.”

After setting up the online shop and gaining traction on her Instagram, she felt that opening a store was “the natural next step” in expanding her business.

In Ukraine, flowers are a big part of culture and a symbol of love, which Alla wished to recreate in the UK, with her grand, beautiful arrangements and reflect her own unique style.

She said: “What we’re trying to do with this store, which is different from other flower stores, is bringing in Ukrainian culture. Flowers are a way of life over there, a kind of luxury we can’t live without.

“The flower shops in Kyiv are like art galleries, in a way, rather than how they are here.”

Alla locally sources the flowers from local growers where possible, to have the freshest, seasonal options available.

Flowers by Alla is located on 142 Wells Road in Totterdown, next to Hang it Picture Framing and opposite ArtPark Gallery.

The store is open Tuesday to Saturday, 9am-4pm.
