My home, Lottie Storey

By Helen Martin  Wednesday Oct 1, 2014

Lottie, a writer and her husband Ben, a web designer and mid-century furniture designer, live in a Victorian bay fronted house in Southville with their two children.

We moved to this house in 2006. It was quite a different property then – brightly painted, carpeted upstairs, and with a relatively narrow kitchen. We knocked down a lean-to to double the width of the dining area, and remodelled the kitchen, as well as the bathroom. We’ve also redecorated every single room.

The most creative thing we’ve done is with the panelling in the bathroom. It’s actually two old wooden doors set on their sides and painted. My favourite find in the house is the giant red metal ‘Fleurs’ sign, from a French florist.

This house has seen so many things, especially the two babies brought home to this place, who are now running up and down the stairs and causing havoc everywhere. It’s constantly evolving, reflects its inhabitants, and is so much more than a sum of its parts.

For interiors in Bristol, I love the antiques shop on Waterloo Street in Clifton Village. The auction house in Ashton is great for larger items, although you never know what you might find there. And I’m always ‘borrowing’ things from my parents’ house!

My home in five words: Calm, mismatched, modern, warm, and textured
