Bristol warehouse worker competing for UK’s Strongest Man title

By Sofia Webster  Monday Jun 3, 2024

Amazon warehouse worker Luke Sperduti is aiming for the title of the UK’s Strongest Man.

The former soldier, who works as an operation supervisor at the site near Severn Beach, is ready to put his best foot forward having prepared with the help of his colleagues.

Sperduti began powerlifting while in the Corps of Royal Engineers where he served for five years before joining Amazon in 2020.

The preparation for the contest has been extensive, with Sperduti eating up to five meals a day constituting around 6,000 calories including cereal, eggs, steak, pasta and a few trips to Greggs.

Sperduti, 28, who commutes to Bristol from his home in Newport every day, has previously finished second and third in Wales’ Strongest Man competitions.

Sperduti said “there is a great amount of pressure”, with more than half of the athletes already having competed professionally.

A knee injury last year has meant Sperduti is taking extra time to prepare, focusing on his diet and training with a new coach in advance of this year’s contest.

Asked about the future, Sperduti said: “I’d eventually like to get to compete at the World’s Strongest Man, but I’m not in a rush. I have a long time to train and get to the top level.”
