Revival Market: A hidden gem on East Street
Nestled in the heart of Bedminster, Revival Market is a thriving community hub that, at its core, is driven by a passion for sustainability, support for small business and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact.
Revival Market’s owner Jo Mac established the shop in 2015 to provide retail space for anyone who may struggle to thrive in more traditional employment settings.

The shop offers small, independent traders the chance to experience every aspect of running a business without the heavy burden of managing a larger operation.

Jo explained: “Many of our traders come from diverse backgrounds and face challenges in finding conventional employment.
“We give them the opportunity to develop both their retail and business skills while being part of a supportive environment. Over the years, we’ve seen several traders go on to start their own businesses.”
Currently, Revival Market is home to ten traders, each bringing their unique products, skills and stories to the shop where each section is set up in each trader’s unique style.

Jo said: “We are a community shop: this is reflected in our prices and our ethos.
“We always aim to keep our prices low and affordable while also offering tea and coffee mornings for anyone who needs to talk.
“We are also a food bank drop off point, and accept donations of food, toiletries and practical clothing.”
Revival Market is particularly beloved by Bristol’s ever growing band of eco-friendly shoppers, and most of the things you will find in store are either second hand or pre-loved.

So why isn’t this shop more well known?
Jo said a lot of the university students who come into her store refuse to tell others where they brought the clothes because they are keen to gatekeep this hidden treasure.
Personally, I would also gatekeep this shop, but as a Good Samaritan I’ve decided to write about it because it deserves the recognition!
Regardless, Jo and her team have started hosting evening events where customers can come along for an evening of shopping, socialising and home baked goods (including Revival Market trader Dave’s very strong squash).

With a selection of trendy, unique and eccentric clothing, pottery and handmade jewellery, shoes and accessories and plenty of other perfect finds, Revival Market continues to remain a hidden gem on East Street.
Jo said she and her team are proud “to be part of the Bedminster community and hope to continue to trade for years to come”. I wholeheartedly believe they will.
