Saxophonist and composer Alex Meritt brings together a group of improvisers and musicians, interpreting his original compositions that draw on classical music and modern jazz.

Poet, storyteller and wheelchair-user Stephen Lightbown performs his solo piece, A Life with PIP, discussing navigating the benefit system, living with a disability and his relationship with humanity.

TRANSANGER are hosting a five bill lineup at Cafe Kino, featuring emerging bands in grunge, hardcore and noise punk and raising money for the Bristol Transfemme Collective.

February 8: Portrait Ya Bestie!, Small Bar
Paint your friends at this crafty event, with all materials provided. The night promises to be a “joyfully chaotic evening of mixed-media portrait making, belly laughs and wildly questionable likenesses.”

February 19: Desiree Burch, Wardrobe Theatre
“There comes a day when you look around and wonder ‘is the world a raging bin fire or is it perimenopause?’ says Desiree Burch ahead of her Golden Wrath tour. ‘The answer, my friend, is yes.”

February 19-28: Bristol Light Festival, various venues
Bristol Light Festival has swiftly become an early annual highlight. This year once again will see a free citywide celebration as artists showcase their work at various locations.

February 19: Fine + guests, Strange Brew
After a sell-out show at the Cube, Fine is returning to Bristol as a full band. The Copenhagen-based singer-songwriter blends samples, acoustic and electric instrumentation, creating “ethereal” melodies. She has previously co-written for the likes of New Jeans and Smerz.

Cameron Iona’s Umwelt explores the individual’s conception of the world and how it is shaped by senses, memory and lived experience. The exhibition aims to show how everyone interprets the world around them differently.

February 21&22: From Ashes, M Shed
From Ashes is “a tender collaborative act of repair and recover” as visitors help to excavate a paper model featuring thousands of tiny papercrafts models of Bristol buildings from beneath a covering of ash as part of a project that originally took place in the Japanese city of Kanazawa.

February 23: The Paper Kites, Electric Bristol
Australian indie-folk band The Paper Kites are returning to Bristol with a set at Electric, blending melodic acoustic instrumentation with folk-style storytelling and Americana influences.

February 23: Amy Mason, Bristol Old Vic
You’ve probably seen some of Amy Mason’s online videos including her stereotypes of different Bristol mums. Her standup shoe Behold! Promises a “surprising, somewhat filthy dive into connection, intimacy and the perils of using your dead cat’s name as your password.”

February 24: Tarot night, The Bristol Fringe
Consult the cards at The Bristol Fringe’s tarot night, learning about mysticism and tarot paired with the Clifton bar’s classic cocktails.

February 26: 25th Anniversary Chinese New Year Extravaganza, Wongs
Wongs is hosting a celebration to mark 25 years of the Bristol-Guangzhou partnership and kick off the Chinese New Year. The night will feature traditional performances, decorations and an array of excellent food.

February 26: Creative Adult Wellbeing Workshops, Arnolfini
creativeShift CIC are hosting an afternoon of crafting for wellbeing at the Arnolfini gallery, exploring how being creative in a relaxed, inclusive and friendly environment can positively impact your mental health.

February 27 – March 1: Bishopston Window Wanderland, various venues
Now a global event, Window Wanderland returns to the north Bristol neighbourhood where it all began. For the uninitiated, the weekend sees windows transformed into a festival of light and colour, with residential streets becoming an outdoor gallery.

February 27: Dream Nails, The Louisiana
Queer feminist punk band Dream Girls are taking to The Louisiana for a night of “energised, empathetic, yet politically conscious punk”, regrouping and reworking their sound in what the band describe as “a new kind of creative and spiritual response to our times.”

February 28: DEADLETTER, Trinity Centre
For fans of LCD Soundsystem, Gang of Four or Viagra Boys, Yorkshire-formed DEADLETTER are a rising name in the post-punk landscape in what is billed as “an instinctive understanding of movement and danceability.”

February 28: Inksanity – An Introduction to Water Marbling, UNIT8 Studios
This two-hour craft session teaches the skill of water marbling, creating patterns and printed designs through suspending inks in water. “Instead of stressing about trying to draw something perfectly, you play with colour and pattern till you achieve an image that you like,” say the organisers.
