Monday: The Track is Back, Whitchurch Athletics Track
A group is hiring the track for a small event which promises to provide a “taste of different aspects of athletics”. Organisers say more details are to follow but have confirmed that Vernon Samuels, who competed in the triple competition at the 1988 Olympics for Britain, will be in attendance.

Bowdon Parish Church Choir, affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music, is making a flying visit to Bristol. Each Choral Evensong will be sung by the group for a week. The Choir will leave the day before the right reverend Vivienne Faull will retire as the Bishop of Bristol.

Tuesday: Rebel Book Club x China, The Orange Tree
Founded in 2015, Rebel Book Club, which now has a presence in Bristol, London and Oxford, say they are “not your average book club”. Each month, members vote on which book they would like to discuss and, for August, the choice is Private Revolutions: Coming of Age in New China by Yuan Yang. Yuan Yang is a former Financial Times journalist who became the Labour MP for Earley and Woodley in 2024. She is the first Chinese-born British MP.
