A pop-up shop has opened on St Nicholas Street specialising in West Country cheese.
Rosie Morgan, aka The Bristol Cheesemonger, is a well-known face from various Bristol markets and she has also often sold her cheeses and shared her knowledge at Hart’s Bakery on the occasional Saturday morning.
Alongside cheese there are chutneys from Bishopston Supper Club, beer from Moor Beer Co, bread from Farro bakery and wine from Moor Wine on tap.
Rosie’s love of cheese stemmed from working in a specialist cheese shop in her hometown in Devon from the age of 14.
When she moved to Bristol she began to sell cheeses in her spare time at local markets when not working as a barista first at Boston Tea Party and now at Full Court Press.
“Bristol is fantastic for supporting local businesses and people,” Rosie said. “If I had come to a different city I don’t know if I’d have had so much luck.”
So what cheese would Rosie recommend for a Christmas gift?
“I love them all,” she said. “I always encourage my customers to try a few first to see what they like.”
But eventually she settled on a soft ash-coated goats cheese from Somerset.
The Bristol Cheesemonger shop is open until December 24 at 43 St Nicholas Street. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/bristolcheese
