World-renowned chef joins forces to tackle holiday hunger

By Milan Perera  Tuesday Oct 7, 2025

A world-renowned chef who has trained some of the biggest names in the culinary industry, including Marco Pierre White, Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Wareing, has joined forces with two West Country organisations to tackle holiday hunger faced by children in the region.

A new Bristol-founded campaign, Potatoes with Purpose, is turning every bag of chef Pierre Koffmann’s potatoes into support for children struggling with holiday hunger.

Launched in October, the initiative is a partnership between Chew Valley-based food supplier Arthur David, Pierre Koffmann through The Food Heroes and the award-winning social enterprise Community of Purpose.

For every pink bag of Koffmann’s Potatoes sold, £1 will be donated to Community of Purpose’s Break Free programme, which provides meals and activities for children who might otherwise go hungry during school holidays.

Running until February 2026, the campaign will also include cooking workshops for local children, teaching them how to prepare healthy potato-based meals.

Restaurants, pubs and caterers are being encouraged to join in by donating 20p from every potato dish they sell.

Pierre Koffmann said the project reflects his belief that “food brings people together — and no child should go hungry”.

He added: “We’re proud to see our potatoes making a difference not only in kitchens and restaurants, but also in the lives of children who need them most.”

Community of Purpose founder Amy Kington welcomed the support, calling holiday hunger “one of the biggest challenges for our city”.

She said: “This campaign will help us provide more meals, more activities, and more opportunities for young people to flourish.”

Arthur David’s director of people and culture, Jon Evans, said the initiative shows how local businesses can “connect what we do best with what our community needs most”.

“At Arthur David, we’ve always believed in food with service,” he added. “Partnering with The Food Heroes – the Home of Koffmann’s and Community of Purpose allows us to connect what we do best with what our community needs most.”
